Creating an Incentive Program for Efficiency & Performance

A Radiologist Incentive Pay Program began as an initiative to cover occasional hours and help reduce backlog.  Over a few years, it grew incrementally alongside the expansion of the practice and increasing volume.

 Time-Based Work Units can be used in place of wRVUs.  These units reflect the average time required to dictate a report, promoting fairness by reducing cherry-picking.

 To ensure sustainability, we designed a model that would remain within a $2.0–$2.1 million annual budget.  The program was developed using shift-specific thresholds, analyzing daily shift data to maintain fairness and accuracy.

 Each month, radiologists receive detailed line-item reports in PDF format, and Payroll was provided with comprehensive monthly summaries for processing.

 This program reflected a commitment to efficiency and transparency while rewarding flexibility and performance.
